Achieving an allergy free bed takes some steps to assure the dust mites and so much more are controlled in the bed. Every bed contains allergens and mites that live in bedding and carpets. These allergens are free to float and provoke allergic reactions to the bedding. Keeping the allergy bedding dust free can also reduce exposure to cockroaches and other things that cause allergy problems. If a truly allergy free bedroom is desired; it is necessary to reduce the numbers of surfaces the dust can collect. Keep only one bed in the bedrooms. Enclose mattresses and box springs in allergen proof covers. Scrub bed springs outside of the bed. If there needs to be a second bed in the room, clean it the same way. Washable is the only way to ensure the bedding is free of allergens. Sheets, blankets and all other bedding should be washed in water that is at least 130 degrees Fahrenheit. If the bedding is washed in a lower temperature, it will not keep it free of allergens. Washing bedding in a Laundromat is an idea if the water temperature in the home is not hot enough. Synthetic mattress pads covering the bedding and pillows are another good idea. Avoid wooly bedding or flannels that will raise more dust. If bedding is free of allergens, it will be easier to breathe and sleep at night.
